about

The coda to "Mnemosyne", recorded on 27 november 2013.

Even in this moment of quietude, as the music dissolved in the waters of river Lethe, the sound of the typewriter would not stop (someone was 'improvising a novel' while we played).

A theme, "the topology of time", unfolded through our three performances, although we hadn't meant to do this. Adventures in and out of linear time, the amphibology of the eternal moment, memory and oblivion, the sudden arising of opportunity, difference and repetition... This emerged after the fact, when I remixed these recordings.

The Kairos project appeared unexpectedly during one of my public improvisation workshops. Since I had a strong sense of the available possibilities, I immediately booked three concerts with the few blokes that had showed up that day. One character then let us down, without warning. A new line-up had to be devised, ad hoc, at short notice. We played this concert series without further ado. It worked.
